Hearing protectors for military
purposes were first used by the ancient Greeks. The earplug was
patented in 1864. In 1905 work started on designing mechanical
devices to limit the damage done by gunfire noise. Mallock-Armstrong
designed these plugs in 1914 called "ear defenders" and they were extensively used in World
War 1. The central rod is for removing ear wax from the plugs |
