A brass auricle for the right ear dating to the early 20th century.
These would sometimes come as a pair of auricles held either side of
the band for bilateral hearing loss, but there were variations for
single auricles on either side. The auricle itself has an even dark rich patina and
is held in position
over the ear with a steel headband. The earpiece is made from a
black early plastic and unscrews with a firm thread. I am not sure
of the material used for the pad at the other end of the headband,
but it has a black finish and is held in place with brass rivets. The
banded auricle sits comfortably in position and is surprisingly
unobtrusive and effective as a hearing aid.
