These exquisitely carved 19th century
aids by Rein are considered to represent the pinnacle of artistry and
design in antique ear trumpets. The Grand Opera Dome is a large piece
which is extraordinarily rare and I know only of one other example in
a private collection. Many of Rein's similarly styled trumpets from
this period have wear to the silver plate or physical damage.
Unusually this one is in perfect condition throughout. Around the
lower circumference of the dome is engraved 'F C Rein and Son
patentees sole inventors and only makers 108 Strand London'.
