A burgundy Staffordshire leech jar by Samuel Alcock
circa 1840. The lid has multiple perforations so as to
allow the leeches to breathe. The striking and colourful
design make these much sought after, more so because
relatively few of these have survived to the current
day. Unsigned (as is commonly the case) and in excellent
condition but with some fading of the gilding in keeping
with its age. These would of be part of a set of three
with accompanying honey and tamarind jars.
