A very nice example of a mid 19th century chainsaw. The
instrument was used "chainsaw" style for cutting through
bone. One such procedure was division of the pubic bone
during labour which was intended to aid delivery. The saw is
in excellent condition with fine crosshatched handles in
ebony (noting a barely discernable 1mm chip as shown).
