A presentation quality bistoury (lithotome) cache. This instrument was used for the removal of bladder stones. The handle is finely carved in ivory and signed by Bonnels, a renowned European medical instrument maker from the mid 19th century. There is a graduated blue steeled mechanism on the handle which limits the opening of the blade. Both the handle and the tip of the instrument are ornately engraved. In quite beautiful condition throughout.
